xmas

Christmas is over.
Finally, it seems.
Not that I don't like my relatives, I do, but spending 5 days with them, 24/7, in a foreign town, no internet connection, and NOTHING worthwile to do just irritates me.
It's gotten to the point where I don't know if I even WANT to do this xmas thing with my family again if it entails going anywhere forther than the general stockholm area.
As soon as you go to visit relatives, and you're grown up (26, going on 27, more or less anyway), you are locked up. It really sucked. Sure, there were highlights, but not again, not for me.

In other news, my essay is close to complete, but there are things that are taking longer time than they should.
One chapter that I'm re-writing now just refuses to come out. I've tried different approaches, but nothing I write sounds right.
I've put on some good tunes and set my lappy up facing the blizzard outside, alone in the house. Maybe that'll help my writing, I don't know. Going to crank the writing into high gear now, later!

A Plea For Help

I recently posted this to my WoW guild forum (Core on Twillight's Hammer).

Having recently respecced to a sword rogue, I really want o know of the damage increase I do with sword ss makes up for what I loose when not using ambush.

The question is, all things being equal, which of these equations are true?
Does the higher dmg swords, with the new normalized attack power*weapon class speed modifier, outweigh the fact that ambush can do massive damage?

dps(sword ss) >? dps(ambush + dagger ss)
dps(sword ss) >? dps(ambush + backstab)

with dagger spec
with sword spec
faster poison procs?

Of course, there are other things to consider. For example build, if you go with improved ambush or not.

I would love to hear your educated opinions on this. Replies from rogues who have tried both (with rougly equally powerfull weapons) or people who have actually done the math (this would be the best) on this thing.

I am tempted to sit down and do the math myself, and come up with a definitive answer, but my bachelors thesis is taking up a bit too much time for that.

Also, suggestions for equal class weapons that I or someone else could base their calculations on would be welcome.

Is, for instance
Krol blade = heart seeker?
or
Krol blade = core hound tooth?
and please set aside things like +chance to crit and added attack power.
We would need to normalize these weapons against eachother to get proper calculations.
I have yet to find scientific data on this, it's mostly opinion, and 50/50 doesn't really sway me.
Any worthwhile information is welcome.

My recap plugin tells me that ~55% of my damage is "white" and 30-33% is from Sinister strike.
I'm sure yours would say the same, but what I don't know is what it looks like for people with improved ambush.
Or people for that matter who abmush and then switch to swords.
I'm thinking now that maybe a small application fed from thottbot or something might be in order.
That will accept different build types.

Thesis Revisited

I handed in my partial thesis on thursday for evaluation.
I thouht that it was partial in the sense of lacking maybe 10-15%.
My advisor thougth otherwise, or atleast that's what it sounded like.
He said that I had lots to do, and that I should hurry up. I did get some valid points about htings to change, but the thing is that most of the actual information is in there, I might have to write 3-4 more pages, but the lions share of the paper is done. Maybe he didn't see that through my numerous comments...
So the week before christmas will be spent phrenetically writing the last parts or my essay. Not that I don't want to bring it with me when I go home, but I would like some piece of mind over xmas.

London was interesting.
Not at all what I expected, but lots of fun none the less.
I guess I shouldn't say london so much as reading though.
Went over to visit a friend and her boyfriend.
Umm, I realize i might have tokeep this short and sweet because my goddamn head won't stop spinning for some unknown reason.
It's not the "day afters" either, it's something else.
Must be their third-worl-water supply or something.
